Welcome to the Underworld

Congratulations! You're (probably) dead! Whether or not it's canon for your string to have been cut or... you ran into some... unforeseen circumstances... You're in the Underworld. But your very generous host has offered you a second chance for life. He'll restore you to your world, all nice and proper, if you do a little something for him.

"See, I'm trying to take over the cosmos. I know, I know, it's so cliche, but that's the scheme of things. I need a little bit of help. I'm not just looking at my corner of the cosmos, I want it all. The other side of the grass, the multi-verse, call it what you want. And if you do a good job I'll also leave your little sunspot of a home untouched. Good, right? You get to live again, and you won't have to deal with me! Unless you want me to take your world... but that's a whole other story... While you work for me, you'll even get sort of a... temporary version of your body. I gotta work to put your complete package back together, but that'll keep you moving while you keep busy."

Of course, if you're really good at your job, he might just... keep you around a bit longer. He'll find a reason ;)

Or maybe you actually, willingly, decided to stick around. Sure, the Underworld's drafty, but it could be better than going home, eh?

Come on, your host isn't that bad of a guy.

I don't know, Hades woke up while I was working. Make a contract with Hades, already have one established; be new or end up stuck there for awhile because your "soul isn't ready yet." He'd ask for things like kill 100+ people or poison a city or burn down an ecosystem or get a lot of really powerful relics for him... pretty much either something awful or gaining powerful shit for him.

It's also completely possible that:

1) Your "unforeseen circumstance" was getting killed by another character that was conscripted by Hades

2) You're not dead, but Hades possesses your soul courtesy of a different deal (similar to Megara, basically)

3) You're a damn goody-two-shoes who's too stubborn to actually work for him :| Ugh what a waste of space!

4) You asked Hades to give you some special power of sorts (whatev you want) to help you achieve your task. He'll grant you that! You'll just have to do an extra task in return :|



Have fun?! \o_O/ Mingle with other conscripts, work with folks to do Awful Things(TM), and I'll try and tag around with Hades (or Pain and Panic lol). As a note for just myself: I'll match style if folk are biased to action posts or whatev. Also for my chars (Hades included) I can use RP-canon, just ask!

"I prefer it when there is a defense, personally. What fun is a one-sided fight?" He floats back onto his feet and tosses his cape over his shoulder, cocking his head to the side.

"Now, the question of the hour: why? A play for power for the sake of power? For some greater goal? On principle! For glory! So many possibilities to pick..."

He claps his hands, blue flames dancing over them briefly. "Well, I can make them have a real fighting chance, but that costs a little extra, you see." In fact, he's perfectly happy to do so. Means he gets more out of the weak ones. He leans forward, finger on chin, making a show--haha--of thinking.

"A little of column A, a smidgen from column B. Power is all the rage. Principle..." He toys with how the word rolls of his tongue, then nods, satisfied, "principle is good. Fitting." Snaps two fingers to let off a spark of orange flame. "And then there's the eternal boredom I've had to suffer through in this lovely job of mine. It's time for a real change."

One that Zeus and his jerk son and all their stupid relatives can't even begin to touch. Because yeah, no matter how much power he amasses, Olympus is still something always--ALWAYS--out of reach.

"Ah, yes, boredom. Truly the most terrible of fates." From anyone else it might be sarcasm, but from The Magician it's absolutely sincere, from the sigh that follows the statement to the utter distaste with which the word "boredom" drips with as it's said.

"Well! That is a cause I can strive for, and one I am sad to say I am currently, terribly, awfully, afflicted with at the moment. What is it that you're looking for, exactly?"

"What am I looking for..." he repeats, voice sing-song.

He holds out a palm and in a puff of dark smoke, a scroll appears, one end unrolling, hitting the floor, and continuing to roll past Hades. Scrawled on the page seems to be a list of names, some crossed out, with varying numbers and other shorthand text with them.

He hmmms at the scroll, deep in thought, then conjures a quill into his other hand and a pair of spectacles over his eyes. He finds a blank space and then peers at this new soul.

"You got any specialties?"

Hades might have judged the soul too swiftly. Maybe it was alright. Alright enough that Hades might actually give him something he can succeed at, instead of throwing him into the deep-end for a laugh and watching him try to find footing.

What? Occasionally he can be a "good guy."

"Oh, a few," the masked man said, and counted them off on his fingers one by one. "Magic, dagger throwing, the ability to split a world in half, an excellent talent for storytelling--though that may fall too far into the realm of bragging--an eye for entertainment..." He stopped himself there and turned to Hades again.

"Would that happen to suit anything on the list?" He'd be more than happy to watch if all else failed.

Hades listens, only half paying attention, and then the man's words fully register and he waves his quill-holding hand through the air. "Hold on, hold on! Back it up there a minute. The ability to split a world in half?" he echoes.

He doesn't need all the worlds intact...

"Indeed! Down to each and every soul. I can't say I'd recommend it. It only came about because my... 'sister,' I suppose you could say, and I had a disagreement. At least everything turned out fine in the end." The Magician cocks his head to the side and waves his hand as if dismissing the very notion that his words are anything out of the ordinary, or even anything people might have words about.
